Medical disclaimer
This website provides general information and education about tinnitus, hyperacusis, and related sound-sensitivity experiences. It is intended to help you understand the topic and ask better questions. It is not medical advice.
Not a diagnosis or treatment
Nothing on this site diagnoses any condition or prescribes any treatment. "Reactive tinnitus" itself is a descriptive term used by patients and clinics, not a formal medical diagnosis. Any tools here, including the Symptom Profiler, are educational only. They do not perform a clinical assessment, and their suggestions are not a diagnosis. Symptom patterns overlap, and reliable diagnosis requires a qualified professional.
Always consult a professional
Decisions about your hearing and health should be made with a doctor, audiologist, or other qualified clinician who can assess your individual situation. Do not start, stop, or change any treatment based on what you read here without professional guidance. Never disregard or delay seeking professional advice because of something on this site.
When to seek urgent care
Some symptoms need prompt medical attention rather than self-guidance, including tinnitus that pulses in time with your heartbeat, tinnitus clearly in one ear only, sudden or rapidly worsening hearing loss, or tinnitus with dizziness or neurological symptoms. Sudden hearing loss in particular is time-critical. See our when to see a doctor page, and if in doubt, contact a medical professional or your local emergency service.
Evidence and accuracy
We make a genuine effort to base content on cited, peer-reviewed and authoritative sources and to be honest about the limits of the evidence, which you can review on our sources page. Even so, research evolves, individual cases differ, and we cannot guarantee that all information is complete or current. Use it as a starting point, not a final answer.
No professional relationship
Reading this site or using its tools does not create a doctor-patient or any other professional relationship. This is an independent editorial project, written from lived experience and grounded in research, as described on our about page. We are not affiliated with, and do not sell, any cure, supplement, device, or treatment program.
If you are in significant distress, or having thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out to a doctor or a mental-health crisis line in your country right away. You deserve support, and help is available.
